Dental Exams & Cleanings
Let Us Give You a Healthy Smile - Get in Touch with Our San Diego Dental Office!
Are you nervous about getting any kind of dental work done? While a lot of people experience fear and apprehension about visiting the dentist, fortunately a lot of the common problems associated with tooth decay including pain and discomfort can be easily prevented by regular dental exams and cleanings. Visiting your dentist twice a year is important for your oral health, especially for the prevention of tooth decay and gum disease.
The best way to protect your smile and your wallet is to visit the dentist every six months for a regular exam and cleaning. During your visit with Dr. Roya Mirkhan, she can fully examine your mouth in order to identify any gum inflammation, bone loss, or cavities. The sooner that any such problems are caught, the easier it is and less expensive it is to treat the problems that are present, and at a time when they are the most treatable.
Regular exams and cleanings can help by preventing painful and costly problems from occurring in the first place. If you notice any of the below symptoms, then schedule an appointment with our office as soon as possible:
- Your gums bleed when you press on them or brush your teeth.
- Your teeth are lose or moving apart.
- Your gums are tender, red, or swollen.
- You have a toothache.
- You've lost a filling.
- You suffered an injury to your face, jaw, or teeth.
- You have persistent bad breath.
After an exam, it will be important to get your teeth cleaned. Teeth cleaning involves removing dental plaque from the teeth for the purpose of preventing cavities, gingivitis and periodontal disease.
A comprehensive dental exam will be performed by your dentist at your initial dental visit. At regular check-up exams, your dentist and hygienist will include the following:
- Examination of diagnostic X-rays
- Oral cancer screening
- Gum disease evaluation
- Examination of tooth decay
- Examination of existing restorations
Professional Dental Cleanings
Professional dental cleanings (dental prophylaxis) are usually performed by Registered Dental Hygienists. Your cleaning appointment will include a dental exam and the following:
- Removal of calculus (tartar)
- Removal of plaque
- Teeth polishing
