Q1: How do you determine if I am a good candidate for dental implants?
- If you have one or more missing teeth
- If you have difficulty chewing
- If you have loose teeth
- If you have loose denture teeth
- If you have dental bridges that get a lot of food trapped under
- If you are a non-smoker
The very first and best step is to make an implant consultation appointment.
Dr. Mirkhan offers a free initial consultation so that you can know your
options and make an informed decision regarding your dental implants.
Q2: How many surgeries do I have to go through to have my tooth or teeth
extracted and the implants put in?
A: In most cases,
one appointment to do extractions and immediate placement of the dental implant(s); all
done in one visit. Other offices do not necessarily adhere to this schedule
and could take multiple appointments and months to place the implants.
Q3: Will I have sedation choices? If so, what are they?
A: IV Sedation and Oral Conscious Sedation are the two best options offered.
Q4: Why should I choose a dentist who specializes in implants?
A: Today, most general dentists place dental implants although they have
not had adequate specialized school training to do so. But dentists who
have had extra training to place dental implants have undergone 3 –
4 additional years of training after completing 4 years of dental school.
This enables them to be competent in the surgical placement of dental
implants and to prevent complications associated with them.
I have undergone an additional 3 years of training to deliver the highest
level of care to my patients.
Q5: How long will my implants last?
A: If your implants are placed by an implant specialist, they should last
you a lifetime. There are so many factors that are taken into consideration
in the surgical placement of dental implants, their restoration, and their
maintenance. There is greater than 98% success rate for lower implants
and more than 94% success rate for upper implants.
Q6: What is your success rate with implants?
A: During my 17 years in practice, I have had 98% success rate for all of
my implant cases. The 2% failure rate has been related to smoker patients
and non-compliant patients.
Q7: What maintenance will I have to perform, if any, with implants?
A: Once you become an implant patient at my office, you will be closely watched
and monitored for the long-term success of your dental implants. We value
the investment you have made in your oral health and we help you to keep
them for a lifetime.
